My friend S has a little boy just a few weeks younger that Little Man. We share advice and stories frequently. Recently, we were commiserating about teething. S has developed a theory about teething. She says the worst teething pain for her son has been coming with odd-numbered teeth: The first tooth, the third, and so on.
It sounds a little crazy, but I think there might be something to it.
Little Man's first tooth took FOREVER to break through and he was miserable off-and-on for months. He developed a mild rash, fever, and runny nose (all at separate times for maximum panicking effect, of course).
Sometime, in the last week he has all of a sudden sprouted a new tooth. No fussing, no rash, no fever, no nothing. If we hadn't been peeking in his mouth so much to see if the aforementioned first tooth was fully through, we never would have noticed his second tooth.
So, what's your opinion? Was there any predictable pattern to your child's teething or is it just insanity to try to make sense out of the random?

It took Peanut FOREVER to get any teeth. Almost a year. And I thought she was teething at 3 months old so you can imagine my anxiety level. She never really shows any consistent signs. It's usually that she's a little more fussy than normal and few days (or weeks) later, I see a new tooth. She's 17 months and only has 6 teeth so we have plenty of time to experience the joy of teething.
Michelle, we had the exact same experience. Little Man has been teething for FOREVER (or nine months) and he only has two teeth!! I hope they don't all come in at once :)
