Update: Operation Must Lose Baby Weight NOW!

Posted by Sarah at Monday, August 10, 2009
Operation Must Lose Baby Weight NOW! has been in full effect for about a month. I do feel a lot better and enjoy my time walking with my buddies. BUT -- I apparently have lost zero pounds. That's right: I haven't lost any weight even though I'm busting my rear-end waking up at 6 a.m. (during the SUMMER) and walking about 3 miles per day. I was about to blame this on a simple errant scale -- but I've weighed myself on several different scales and I'm afraid I'll need to accept the truth.

I'm trying to stay focused on the goal: Running the Disney 5K in January. But, things are getting desperate! I'm not the most patient of people when it comes to seeing results (or not).

I also have another dilemma: School is starting soon and I will need clothes to wear. Not just the flowy dresses and stretch pants I've been wearing all summer, but, like, professional clothes. I have informed the Smartest Man Alive that I will no longer be wearing maternity clothes. It has been far too long and I just refuse. So, a shopping trip may be in order. Even though I love shopping, I hate to spend a ton of cash on clothes I don't plan on wearing too long.

So tell me, how did you lose your baby weight? How long did it take?

Measure yourself today.

That's right. Get a tape measure and measure everything. Then, a month later, do it again.

Losing weight -- at least from what I've learned at Weight Watchers -- is more than just a number on a scale.

When the number's not budging -- for one reason or another -- check your clothes. You might have gone down a size or two or your clothes just fit better.

Also, does your body FEEL better? More healthy? Less heavy? If so, it's working.

You've only been doing this for a month, Sarah. It'll come off. Don't worry.

Also, write down everything that you eat. That helps me, especially when I run, like, 13 miles and think I can go out and eat a double cheeseburger and fries. Uh ... no.

You're doing great!!!

I second Maureen's suggestion about measuring yourself. Weight isn't everything. The thing is how your clothes fit.

It took you all those months to pack it on, it won't come off so quickly. Unless, of course, you're Heidi Klum. ;)

I third (?) both Maureen and Hillary on measuring. And I would suggest you only weigh yourself once a week at the same time/same day. Your weight can fluctuate so much from day to day, hour to hour that it can be frustrating if you're heading to the scale daily.

You've changed your exercise, have you changed your diet? There's a FANTASTIC website called Spark People (www.sparkpeople.com). It's FREE and you can track your caloric intake, water/fluid intake as well as exercise (strength and cardio) so that you know each day where you're at. It's a great tool and I suggest it to anyone looking to lose weight. It's hard to cheat when you have all the facts and figures staring at you each day.

Good luck!
